Patrick Shanahan, a.k.a. Burke Black, has worked in the construction industry, either on the architecture or the building side of the trade, since graduating from University of Pennsylvania. Early in his career, Patrick worked on framing crews as a carpenter and home builder in Asheville, North Carolina. He started as a rough carpenter but elevated his practice to the role of general contractor. With this direct experience under his belt, he completed the requirements for a Masters Degree in Architecture from the University of New Mexico. Upon graduation, he returned to his hometown of  Chicago to join a prestigious architecture firm, where his portfolio of work with the firm included a $50 million townhouse located in the Old Town neighborhood. Patrick then went on to serve as project manager for a large commercial construction company. Subsequently, he worked on multi-million dollar homes in Lincoln Park with a high-end custom home builder. Patrick established his own architecture and contracting firm in 2010 and has been designing and building out projects ever since. Patrick spends his free time in a “Laser” sailboat on Lake Michigan. He has joined a sailing fleet based out of Montrose harbor in association with the Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club. Patrick redirects the positive energy from sailing into every personal and professional effort. Patrick is the father of a grown daughter who works in film production and editing in Los Angeles.
