The transformation of this rooftop deck allowed BBP to showcase both design and construction skills. The goal was to create a high-end finished space for the client and their guests to relax and enjoy the incredible views of the Chicago River North neighborhood.

The client needed to meet an approaching deadline for their daughter’s wedding reception.  We worked in step with their timeline and completed a project marked by craftsmanship, attention to client needs, and commitment to intelligent design. Through three collaborative design meetings, we developed a vision for the client's dream rooftop.

The goal of the project was to create an outdoor kitchen and living space to meet the demands of their extended, blended family. Acting as both architect and master carpenter, we guarantee the highest level of craftsmanship. We tore back all existing wood finishes to their joists and framing members. We elected to use a naturally rot-resistant wood called ipe (pronounced EE-pay) which is the finest-quality hardwood available and is eight times harder than redwood. Cedar framing members were employed for the outdoor kitchen area. The custom built-in cabinets accommodate a broad kitchen sink with ample storage below, a large set of pullout drawers, an ice maker, an under-counter refrigerator, and a forty-inch outdoor grill. Our team of professional subcontractors completed the electrical and plumbing work, ensuring the delivery of a project with the highest quality results.

 BBP brought the project to fruition through the warm feeling of the ipe hardwood in concert with its modern finishes and carefully crafted details. The resulting rooftop deck artfully joins beautiful form and accessible function. The clients continue to express their satisfaction with this new space.
